Elon’s Shakedown Affects Both Employees And Twitter.

As you may know by now, Elon Mask the richest person in the world is now the new boss of Twitter. But right after taking over Twitter, there’s been some decisions made which caused a lot of Twitter employees to lose their jobs. Truth be told, this shakedown isn’t new. Whenever there’s a new boss, there are going to be some layoffs. But the layoffs happening with Twitter employees are happening in a way that is a bit shocking.

Reports show Elon has plans to reduce (layoffs) the workforce of the platform of 8,000 which is about 50% of the staff. This has led to many Twitter staff waiting to see if they still have a job or not as an email setting out mass layoffs has been sent.

Reports are showing that some employees got fired before receiving any notice. Senior manager Simon Balmain wrote in a message aiming to find a new job; "This morning I lost access to my Twitter systems without warning, meaning I’m part of the layoffs from a role I absolutely adored." This has also affected the Twitter African team. Bernard Kafui Sokpe “Twitter’s Senior Partner Manager for Africa” shared his story in this tweet.

After a week of taking over Twitter for $44 billion, and removing the entire board, making him the sole executive, Elon has let go of 3 executives and is now letting go of 50% of its staff. At the same time, Twitter is facing its first class action lawsuit under Elon’s leadership, filed against the company over the amount of notice given.

In firing the 3 executives, it was reported that they were going to walk with nearly $200 million. And now, Elon is firing half his staff will 3 months severance package. In a tweet, Elon talked about how Twitter is losing $4 million per day as it's paying off all the fired employees. Of course, as a business made, he already has plans underway to make back the money lost. An example is probably the $8 per month payment for a blue checkmark.

But even with this plan and others in motion, it will take a while for both Elon and his ex-employees who are now unemployed to recover from this shakedown.
